How to Jump Higher
Without Traditional Training

 


How can you learn to jump higher? Do an online search or check with a trainer, and you’ll get the same answer across the board: “Work out hard and train your tail off.” However, there is a way to jump higher without all the old school, tired, and tiring methods typically associated with developing a great vertical jump.

Not to say there’s anything wrong with doing it the hard way – but, it’s the hard way. And while the hard way might seem like an appealing and doable challenge to a professional athlete, or at least someone extremely dedicated to fitness, it’s not something that’s going to work for the average person. That’s because you simply don’t have the time or devotion you’d need to make it work.

Then again maybe you think you have what it takes to jump higher using traditional training methods. Before you say you can do it, you should take a look at what some of those methods entail:


Plyometrics: Also known as plyo or jump training, this type of training is intense to say the least. It involves a lot of jumping and a lot of resistance to go with that jumping. Does it work to help you increase your jump? Yes, but is it how to jump higher without a lot of work? Absolutely not.


Weight Training: Weight training is another staple for the traditional methods of how to jump higher. Everything from lunges to squat presses can help to build up the muscles in your legs and thus help you to add inches to your jump. But, there is a flip side to this as well. Weight training the right way requires the proper equipment, which can usually only be found at a gym. That means getting a gym membership and actually making consistent trips to the gym to train.


Running: Another common jump higher training strategy you’ll hear is running. Sounds easy, but we’re talking a lot of running. Running in an effort to increase your jumping ability means jogging, sprinting, and possibly even running with one of those parachutes on your back. This is not only time consuming, but some of the devices that are used to ensure proper training can be a bit costly. On top of the cost, you have to have commitment as well. If you want to run your way to being able to jump higher, you’re looking at training hard five to six days per week.


The bottom line? Training with the traditional ‘how to jump higher’ methods is a time consuming and money consuming endeavor. This is fine if you are a pro athlete making millions of dollars every year and jumping is your job, or you have the luxury of being able to not work every day. But for the rest of us, that’s not realistic.

There’s more. No traditional training routine would be complete without a special diet that goes hand-in-hand with the exercises. Yes, ‘special’ diet – code for “expensive food and supplements you’ll never be sure are really working”. This is all a part of the proper nutrition that can help when you want to jump higher as good food feeds muscles in the proper way. This ensures less fat in the body and more lean muscle.

If the dedication of time and money with the exercising didn’t make you lose interest in the whole how to jump higher with traditional methods, then the special diet probably will. Again, you are talking about one heck of a lot of dedication here. Good nutrition doesn’t come in the way of frozen foods or fast food restaurants. Good nutrition has to be prepared and that preparation requires quite a chunk of time. Yes, you will be eating better, but who has the time? Besides, have you priced healthy foods lately?

All and all it seems like being able to jump high will only come with a big sacrifice of both time and money.
